We’;d like to introduce Liz, the passionate crafter and DIYer behind the blog Smart Girls DIY.? Liz has a big renovation project going on and it has left her with very little time to craft lately.? Needless to say she was super excited to try Paint-A-Pillow and spend some time crafting again.? Liz browsed the large selection of patterns on our website and selected the Fish School Paint-A-Pillow.? She saidcustom wedding gifts, “;I figured it was beachy without being over the top beachy.”;? Along with the kit, she ordered a white pillow cover, a natural pillow cover, and several Jacquard fabric paints.? Here is a sneak peek at what she created:

We love accent pillows that have a fun fish pattern and bright colors! Do you love them too? If the answer is yes then stick around because we’;re going to show you how to recreate this project.

Liz opened her Paint-A-Pillow box and was happy to see it came with all of the supplies she needed.? She commented, “;I was surprised (and happy) to find the pillow cover had the perfect size piece of cardboard already inside it, and was mounted to the stencil frame, with the stencil secured in place on top. ?It was ready to go!”;

First, Liz poured her turquoise fabric paint into the foam tray.??? Then she dipped her stencil brush in the paint.? She was careful to not overload the brush because this would cause the paint to bleed under the stencil.? After the turquoise fish were painted, she painted the remaining fish in emerald green, yellow ochre, and neutral gray.

Once her pillow was painted, she lifted the stencil to reveal the fun painted pattern. Then she was ready to paint her second pillow.? For the second pillow, she chose to paint all the fish blue, except the one swimming the opposite direction, using a dense foam roller.? She covered the one fish swimming upstream with tape and then painted it with a stencil brush in yellow.

Liz let both pillow covers dry before she stuffed the inserts inside.

Liz propped the finished pillows on her couch and had this to say about her stencil project, “;It was a lot of fun and I love the results. ?I am looking forward to another stencil project soon.”;

Did you notice the pretty pattern on the wall behind her couch?? Yup, that our Birch Forest Allover painted in an eye-catching silver hue on her living room accent wall.
